Please bring a device for this hands-on workshop.
In today’s digital world, misinformation spreads quickly and often appears convincing. This hands-on introductory workshop is designed for beginners who want to build confidence in evaluating online information and navigating digital media more effectively. Participants will explore practical strategies for spotting misinformation, fact-checking headlines, and understanding how algorithms influence the content we see online.
The workshop also introduces Auburn University library resources, trusted databases, and research support tools that can help participants verify information with greater confidence. Special attention will be given to “congeniality bias,” the natural tendency to believe and share information that aligns with our existing views and experiences. Through guided activities and discussion, participants will learn how to apply critical thinking skills that honor their life experience while helping them navigate today’s complex information landscape with clarity and confidence.
