This course explores operas written in the English language, from Baroque composer Henry Purcell to contemporary composer Terrence Blanchard. Participants will learn about composers, librettists, and the stories behind the music, offering an accessible entry point for those new to opera.
About the Instructor:
Elizabeth Aversa is a retired University of Alabama faculty member. Though her career focused on library and information science education, she has been a lifelong opera enthusiast thanks to her parents and husband, with whom she has attended performances ranging from the Met to UA’s own Opera Theatre.
