Artificial Intelligence: From the Practical to the Philosophical
Coordinator: Caroline Gebhard
Wednesdays, 2:30–4:00 PM | Sunny Slope Annex | Jan 22 – Mar 5, 2026
The rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the pursuit of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) have inspired both excitement and unease. AI has the power to accelerate learning, improve healthcare, and streamline daily life - but it also raises questions about ethics, identity, and the future of humanity. This course will feature a series of guest speakers from across Auburn University, each offering a distinct perspective on AI’s role in teaching, research, and society. Participants will gain an accessible understanding of what AI is, how it is already being used on campus, and the philosophical and social implications of delegating decisions to machines.
Guest Speakers:
Beverly Rilett, PhD – Associate Research Professor and Digital Humanities Coordinator, Auburn University Libraries
Asim Ali – Director, Biggio Center for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning
Chris Basgier, PhD – Director, University Writing
Lindsay Doukopoulos, PhD – Associate Director of Educational Development, Auburn University
Moirah Kent – AI Implementation Specialist, Biggio Center
Elay Shech, PhD – Professor of Philosophy, Auburn University
