Learn the basics of taking professional photos with your camera. This introductory course teaches basic camera operation, fundamentals of exposure, and composition. This course includes classroom instruction and a field trip and is designed as an adult course.

Requirements:
Bring your own digital SLR camera, with changeable lenses

  • Understand how to use your camera in manual, aperture, and shutter priority modes
  • Learn the Exposure Triangle: aperture, shutter speed, and ISO - and how they work together
  • Master the basics of composition and framing to create visually compelling images
  • Discover how light and shadows shape your photos - from natural light to flash
  • Explore lens types and focal lengths, and how they affect perspective and storytelling
  • Get hands-on with depth of field and how to create sharp or dreamy backgrounds
  • Learn how to control motion - freeze action or create smooth motion blur
  • Understand white balance and how color affects mood and tone
  • Get started with basic photo editing to enhance your images
  • Learn how to find your personal style and tell stories through your lens
  • Practice ethical and respectful photography, especially when shooting people or public places
  • Build confidence in shooting in various conditions: landscape, portrait, macro, and low light
