This course explores the sheriff's department, jail administration, and their budgets, as well as the duties and authorities of the sheriff. Additionally, this course will emphasize the broader role of public safety in county governance, including how law enforcement, jail operations, and community partnerships contribute to maintain safe and secure communities. Commissioners will gain insight into how decisions around budgets, staffing, and policy directly impact public safety outcomes, from crime prevention to emergency response to rehabilitation and reintegration efforts, thus equipping commissioners to make informed decisions that balance fiscal responsibility with the well-being of residents. * Gain insight into how your sheriff's department carries out key duties such as: jail administration, budgeting, community safety, rehabilitation outcomes and more.
