Lifeguard Training Hybrid Course (Online and Classroom)

The program fee includes a swim test that will be administered at the beginning of the course. Please be sure you can do this before enrolling. Participants MUST pass the swim test in order to continue with the course. THE SWIM TEST CONSISTS OF THE FOLLOWING:
* Participant must be able to swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing.

* Participant must tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.

* Starting in the water, participant must swim 20 yards within 50 seconds.

* Participant must surface dive (feet first or head first) to a depth of 7-10 feet to retrieve a 10 lb. object.

* Participant must return to the surface and swim 20 yards on their back returning to the starting point (while holding the object with both hands).

* Participant must exit the water without using a ladder or the steps.

Location: All classes are conducted at the James Martin Aquatics Center, on the campus of Auburn University. The Aquatics Center is located on Roosevelt Drive between the Memorial Coliseum and the Student Activities Center. A classroom and a pool in the Aquatics Center will be used for portions of the course.

Parking: May park on Biggio Drive or in the Coliseum Lot. Parking permit restrictions will not apply during the scheduled class hours.

Professional Development Note: Those seeking professional development training will qualify for award of 2.7 CEU upon successful completion of this course.

Materials: Course participants will need a pocket mask and an American Red Cross Lifeguard Manual. You will be asked upon registration if you have a pocket mask, if you do not one will be supplied for you as part of your registration fee EXCEPT for the Red Cross manual (optional student purchase of $32.00). The participant manual for Lifeguard Training can be downloaded free of charge at http://www.redcross.org/participantmaterials. Withdrawals & Refunds: If you are unable to attend a course for which you have registered, we ask that you notify the Office of Professional & Continuing Education (fax, or in writing/email) no later than three business days prior to the beginning of the course.

A full refund minus a $20 administrative charge, is given when cancellation is made three business days prior to the first scheduled session; no refund thereafter.

No refunds will be given to participants that do not pass the swim test.
