American Sign Language I

This ASL I class will cover the alphabet, numbers, people, places, and everyday vocabulary related to things such as emotions, foods, colors, etc. Calendars and time will be covered as well. Participants will learn sentence structure and techniques required to comfortably express and receive messages in American Sign Language. By signing with others in the class, participants will learn new techniques. By the end of the course, participants will be able to carry on simple conversations using sign language.

Class Schedule:

Class will meet (6) Tuesdays from September 5th to October 10th from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. (Central Standard Time).

Location: The conference room (Room 328) in O.D. Smith Hall (135 South College Street) is located on the third floor. Everyone must enter the back door and walk up one half flight of steps to get the elevator to the third floor, or you can walk all the way. Parking is available in the lot behind O.D. Smith Hall that you enter from Thach Avenue, right behind the University Chapel. If you are entering O. D. Smith Hall from South College Street, enter the building through the door located at the top of the handicapped access ramp. Turn right and go down the hall to take the elevator to the third floor. Exit the elevator and take a right. Room 328 (conference room) will be at the end of the hall.

Those seeking professional development training will qualify for award of 1.2 CEU upon successful completion of this course.

Withdrawals & Refunds:

If you are unable to attend a course for which you have registered, we ask that you notify the Office of Professional & Continuing Education (fax, or in writing/email) no later than three business days prior to the beginning of the course. A full refund minus a $20 administrative charge, is given when cancellation is made three business days prior to the first scheduled session; no refund thereafter.
