Bitcoin 101

Bitcoin is a new, purely digital asset that aspires to be digital gold and even digital money. How does it work and what are the implications? This course equips students with the basics of bitcoin literacy -- an overview of the nature of money and the potential problems of the current monetary system, the solutions that bitcoin offers, the way bitcoin works, bitcoin vs. other cryptocurrencies, bitcoin mining and energy, investment principles, and social implications. Students will also be guided on ways that they can acquire and secure bitcoin if they choose.

For students who would like to self-custody bitcoin, they may want to order a bitcoin hardware wallet. Options will be mentioned in class.
