Alabama Watershed Stewards (AWS) is a statewide science-based educational program that promotes healthy watersheds, increases understanding of water pollution, and provides the knowledge and tools needed to prevent and resolve local water quality problems. The goal of the AWS program is to increase citizen awareness and knowledge about the function of watersheds, their potential impairments, and local watershed protection strategies. The program will also include practical and engaging tools for encouraging individuals to take leadership roles in improving their local water quality.

Thank you for registering to attend the 2020 Alabama Watershed Stewards Workshop. The program is funded by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management and led by the Alabama Cooperative Extension Water Program in conjunction with Alabama Water Watch. During the training participants will learn about: -Watershed Systems: What they are and how they work -Watershed Quality: Learn about water quantity and quality in Alabama. -How you can improve watershed function -Community driven watershed management You will also be given a broad overview of other watershed related organizations and groups in your area you can connect with. *Catered lunch will be provided. *Free Alabama Watershed Stewards Handbook provided. Agenda: 8:30 Meeting Registration 9:00 Welcome and Program Introduction 9:30 Overview of Watershed Systems 10:15 Break 10:30 Overview of Watershed Impairments 12:00 Catered Lunch Provided - Local Watershed Speaker (30 min.) 1:00 Managing to Improve Watershed Function 2:45 Break 3:00 Community-Driven Watershed Protection and Management 3:45 Course Evaluation 4:00 Wrap up and Head Home Driving Directions for the Birmingham Workshop: The workshop will be held in auditorium of the Birmingham Business Alliance, located in the Financial Center Building in Downtown Birmingham: 505 20th Street North, Suite 200, Birmingham, Alabama 35203. Parking Directions for the Birmingham Workshop: There is a parking deck adjacent to the building, they charge $2 per hour and first hour is free. You enter the parking deck on the 5th Avenue North side of the building. The Birmingham Business Alliance does not validate parking however. There is also street parking, and potentially other parking alternatives nearby. Cancelation and Refunds: If a registration is canceled for any reason, the individual or organization making the original tuition payment will receive a full refund if the cancellation request is received in writing within 10 days before the workshop.
