Applications of Machine Learning and A. I. 101

Dates: October 27, 2018

Meets: Saturday from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (CST)

Location: Conference Room of Korea Corner

Registration Fee: $99.00

The course was conceived due to two factors: One, computing power via GPU (Graphics Processing Units) vs commonplace CPUs allow the heavy-lifting required for large-scale machine learning and some AI to be realized on personal computers and laptops. Two, with this new availability the knowledge and applications surrounding machine learning (ML) and AI is growing exponentially. As is typical as a new and game-changing technology makes its way into everyday lives, understanding how it can be used and leveraged is fuzzy and confusing. The goal of the course is to make participants comfortable and conversational about ML and AI and to provide them a set of tools they can use to confidently apply ML to problems and opportunities in their vocations. The highlights of the course will be exploring some of the very compelling ways ML and AI are being used to solve wildly complex problems, to diagnose illnesses before they're actually illnesses, to create artistically and to predict how we would handle mundane daily tasks and do some of those for us. Also, participants will use their own laptops to engage in ML exercises-without programming-to gain knowledge and confidence in applying the available ML and AI tools to their own work and interests.

Participants will have a 30 minute lunch break.
