Abatements: An In-Depth Look

This course is an advanced abatements course designed to assist those persons involved in the assessing of abatements. Students should have a general knowledge of the abatement assessing process. The courses will provide in-depth discussion of the Code of Alabama 1975 Sections 40-9B, 9C, 9D, 9E, 9F and 9G. These sections establish the laws of the Tax Incentive Reform Act of 1992, the Brownfield Development Tax Abatement Act, the Alabama Economic Incentive Enhancement Act of 2007, State Property Tax in Tax Increment Districts, the Rehabilitation of Historic Structures, and the Alabama Reinvestment and Abatements Act. The course will also include discussion on obsolescence and depreciation and will provide reinforcement of knowledge and skills through several case studies. Prerequisite Course: Exemptions and Abatements.

NOTE: Exemptions and Abatements is a pre-requisite course. If you have not taken this course, please contact our office within five (5) business days to cancel without penalty.

This class will begin Wednesday, June 21st at 8:30 AM and conclude on Friday, June 23rd at 1:00 PM at the Lee County Training Facility, 205 S 10th Street in Opelika, AL 36801. There is parking on the sides as well as the back - if additional parking is needed participants can park at the larger side parking lot located beside the EMA building. Please refer to the attachments for additional course and hotel information, including a list of supplies you will need to bring to class.

Refund and Cancellation Policy: Your registration is CONFIRMED, and payment is requested before the course start date unless you make prior arrangements. Payment can be made by credit card by calling our office, or invoices will be sent. Written or email cancellations received 15 working days prior to the beginning of the class (on or before May 31) will be honored with a partial refund of the registration fee, less an assessed administrative fee ($50). Late cancellations or non-attendance are non-refundable, and payment is expected in full. Substitutions can be made at any time.

Lee County Training Facility

This facility has plenty of parking on the sides of the building and in the back of the building. Do not park in the cleaners parking lot next door or in the alley behind the cleaners. For further parking, check across the street at the Lee County Courthouse.
